FishnDan's Motherlode Fishing Report
Monday, August 16, 2010
Mild August temps in our area have lead to some great action here in the
Mother Lode this month on area waters.
LAKE DON PEDRO, great action taking place here for Rainbow trout,
some nice Kokanee and a few King Salmon in Fleming Bay and in the
Rodgers Creek arm.Target the bows at depths around 35' using small
Threadfin Shad or shad like lures (Ex-Cel, Slim-Fin or Triple-Teasers)
bows in the two pound range. Kokanee are found off Jenkins Hill at
depths to 100' using Uncle Larry's spinners or GlitterBug Hoochies
scented with Pautzke's Fire Corn, kokes to 16". Kings are being caught in
Fleming, or Middle Bay at depths to 150' rolling shad or anchovies, Kings to four pounds.
NEW MELONES, the action here has slowed a little but for those fishing very early or working certain areas will be rewarded with some beautiful Kokanee Salmon.
These areas are where I would target, the dam pocket, the south corner of the spillway and the structure off Glory Hole Point. For the dam and spillway I would target depths from 35' to 55' with typical Kokanee gear, (spinners, bugs, hoochies or Sockeye Slamers) in tandem with dodgers such as Sling Blades, 4/0 dodgers or Crystal Basins "Wild Things". For the kokes off Glory Hole Point these fish are at or very near the bottom, getting your presentation in their area is the trick? Effective scent this past week included Pautzke's Fire Corn in pink or Shoepeg Corn scented with either garlic, vanilla, fresh water shrimp or flavored corn with Crawdad scent.
