Gold Country Sport Fishing Motherlode Fishing Report

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Don Pedro - The fishing here at this big reservoir, is still going strong.  The best
bite is an early morning bite, so getting on the lake early, one will have a better
chance of putting more fish in the boat.  We have been catching nice trout to well
over two pounds and kokanee to 16 1/2 inches, but the for the most part the
kokaneee average 14 to 15 inches and are in pretty good shape.  The trout we have
been using our homemade spoons  and the kokanee have been falling for
Uncle Larry's spinner fished behind Vance's dodgers along with Glitterbug hoochies,
fished from 40 to 65 feet.  Hatch creek, Big Oak Island, Jenkins hill and the
grave yard are holding fish.

New Melones - Only one thing comes to mind about this lake is wow!!!!
The kokanee action is great here and these fish are in great shape and full of fight.
The fish are not deep as most of the fish come at depths of 25 to 55 feet deep.
The fish range in size from 13 to 16 inches. We have been having the best luck with Vance's dodgers and Uncle Larry's spinners as he has some new colors for the upcoming year. Glitterbug hoochies have also been putting their share of fish in the boat.  The only thing anglers need to aware of is the ospreys as these birds are very bold and will dive bomb you in attempt to get your fish and sometimes they do.  The dam and spillway seems to be the best places for the kokanee.

New Hogan - stripers are on a pretty good bite while trolling shad and Anchovies, close to shore lines seems good in the early morning as later in the morning these fish move out into deeper water at depths and we have caught them from 30 to 45 feet deep.
