Lake Tulloch
Lake Tulloch is another small body of water in the Motherlode that is loaded with big fish! Many Largemouth Bass over ten pounds, along with many Smallmouth Bass over four pounds makes this a very good fishery. There is a good population of Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Catfish , Crappie and other panfish in Lake Tulloch. Both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass can be found throughout the lake and can be caught with plastic worms, crankbaits, soft jerk baits and a variety of topwater baits. Rainbow trout offer great fishing throughout the year due to the cold flows from New Melones Reservoir. Try trolling shad imitation lures and spoons throughout the lake for Rainbow Trout, the better places to troll seem to be near the dam, and on the Stanislaus River inlet. For Brown Trout, try trolling shad imitation lures near the rocky shorelines, top lining seems to be the most productive method. Crappie fishing at Lake Tuloch is very good during the late Winter / early Spring months. Try throwing small spinnerbaits, crappie tubes and minnows near rocky points and in the creek arms near submerged brush piles.
For catfish, use filleted shad or anchovies on main lake points and in the backs of creek channels. Shore anglers throwing Powerbait and nightcrawlers catch their fair share of fish also.
Lake Tulloch Southshore has launch ramps, courtesy docks, gas docks, boat rentals, a restaurant, and a general store.
