Lake Don Pedro

Lake Don Pedro is a Big Fish Lake and has a variety of fish including Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Spotted Bass, Rainbow Trout, King Salmon, Kokanee Salmon,  Catfish, Crappie and Bluegill.  Lake Don Pedro is known for it's great fishing as well as it's tough fishing.  When the bite is on, watch out!!  Bass Fishermen looking for a double digit Bass come to Don Pedro because it holds a great population of Florida Strain Largemouth Bass, many over 10 lbs, and quite a few over 15 lbs.  The lake record Bass is 18lbs 9 ounces and many anglers swear there are bigger fish in this lake to be caught.

During the Winter months, most anglers will throw Swimbaits to try and catch big Bass.  Dropshotting, Dartheading, and Jigs can be great baits also.  Trout anglers can catch their limits trolling nightcrawlers in the Middle Bay area and in the Jenkins Hill area.  King Salmon up to 5 lbs have been caught on Don Pedro by anglers trolling Shad anywhere from 25 - 110 feet deep.  Summer time is Kokanee time, many nice Kokanee have been caught from Don Pedro by anglers trolling lures tipped with Shoepeg corn.  Areas to try are Big Oak Island, Jenkins Hill, and the Middle Bay.

Depths can change quickly for Kokanee, keep an eye on your fishfinder and find the fish, then drop your downrigger down to the correct depth and hold on!  There is a large population of Crappie in Lake Don Pedro, look for standing timber in any of the coves and throw Crappie Jigs or Minnows to catch them.  Try fishing at night with stinkbaits for Catfish, many big catfish over 20 lbs have been caught at Don Pedro.

There are three launch ramps at Lake Don Pedro, Blue Oaks Recreation Area, Fleming Meadows Recreation Area, and the Moccasin Point Recreation Area.  For more information about lake Don Pedro, you can call the Don Pedro Recreation Agency at (209) 852-2396.
