Danny Layne has been fishing the Motherlode Lakes for many years.  He has learned the secrets of the many streams, rivers, and lakes from his father.  In the 1950's and 1960's fishing the lakes of Tuolumne County meant "Old Don Pedro" and "Old Melones" Reservoirs.  Fishing then was Top Lining or Lead Core line. There was no controlled depth fishing with downriggers or electronics. In those days you got in the boat, found your favorite lure, and hoped the fish cooperated.

In the mid 1980's Dan bought his first Cannon Downriggers and Hummingbird Fishfinder.  Targeting fish in controlled depth fishing means you are looking for the fish on the depth finder then placing your presentation (lure, nightcrawler, fly, spinner) at their level.  Dan has learned this well, but always receptive to new techniques.  Danny's main goal as a guide, is to show his clients what he is doing and explain why he is doing it so he/she may have a wonderful fishing experience.

Dan is licensed by the California Department of Fish and Game (#3136), US Coast Guard Certified, a lifetime member of the California Inland Fishery Foundation (Project Kokanee), and the Central California Inland Fishery Foundation (Kokanee Power).

Dan and his wife have lived in Tuolumne County for the past 25 years and is proud of being a local guide. Dan offers a pleasant, safe, and courteous fishing experience.

When you book a guide with Fish'n Dan's guide Service, you will be fishing from a 2004 Design Concepts, 22' Pacific Angler, powered by a 5.7 GM 350 CI Vortex fuel injected inboard. For trolling you will be using an 8 HP Yamaha power thrust kicker. The boat is equipped with 4 Mag 10 Cannon downriggers and quality rods and reels.
