Danny Layne's Motherlode Area Fishing Report
New Melones
Some great Kokanee action is taking place here on both New Melones and Lake Don Pedro for these feisty fish.
New Melones, some big kokanee schools are being targeted off the spillway and around the dam area. Target depths for these bigger kokes is 90' to 110' deep, using Vance's Sockeye Slammers, Shasta Tackle's new U. V. Humdinger and Glow Hootchies behind a U.V. SlingBlade. Most productive scents this past week were Pautzke's Fire Power Krill, garlic and vanilla scented Shoepeg Corn.
Don Pedro, kokes are maturing fast and we my be in the final stages of the 2008 kokanee fishing here as the Kokes are going deep before beginning there migration up the lake into the Tuolumne River arm. As of this past the kokanee are holding in some very big schools off Copper Mountain, Oat Hill and Hatch Creek at depths from 100' to 115' hitting Pee Wee hootchies, Sockeye Slammers and Glow Marni Bugs in tandem with Vance's Gold Dodger or U.V. Slingblade
